ACTION AND EDUCATION

THE URGENT IMPERATIVE

We have an urgent imperative to address the immediate planetary tipping point as the Amazon forests approach dieback- causing cascading and irreversible climate impacts globally. There is a small and immediate window to act swiftly, effectively, and collectively as a groundswell effort- working with and as nature – to reverse the effects of deforestation, and to preserve the cultures and ecologies of this essential planetary ecosystem.

BRINGING ORGANIZATIONS TOGETHER IN A SWARM FOR ACTION

We know there are many efforts focused in the Amazon to protect and preserve the ecologies and Indigenous cultures essential to and yet, many of these efforts remain siloed from each other or under-resourced. WE MUST WORK TOGETHER AS A SWARM TO EFFECTIVELY and STRATEGICALLY DO what must be done and can only be done through unprecedented cooperation.

It is essential to mobilize, coordinate, and co-fund the “many to many” collaborative efforts to regenerate the forests, restore water cycles, uplift indigenous stewards and local stakeholders, shift policy, mandates and economic incentives, gain global support and engagement in the Amazon, along with prototyping solutions applied first in the Amazon, and then to other essential ecologies, in an unprecedented and essential effort to begin rapidly cooling the planet.

ACTION ON COP26

At COP26 we organized a hybrid online/on site event connecting Indigenous leadership and Fridays for Future together to work on the protection of rainforests and the guardianship of Indigenous peoples and their role in the fight against climate change and biodiversity destruction. Important point is to push for laws against ecocide and legislation for the right of nature.

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS IN COMBINATION WITH THE WORLD CLIMATE SCHOOL

We have been working in conjunction with the World Climate School to develop special modules with focus on the role of forests and the water cycle in restoring the climate. These educational programs have been used in various programs in countries around the world including in India, Pakistan and several African countries.

INVOLVING GLOBAL YOUTH AND EU ERASMUS+ PROGRAMS

One of the key ways to get traction for planetary regeneration, starting with the Amazon rainforest is through youth education and action. We especially want to focus on the climate youths in Europe as the European Green Deal program creates a lot of awareness and action, leading the world into the transition, but hardly any attention is given to the tipping points in the planetary climate system that could render moot all efforts taken on that continent.

Future of the Amazon is working together with various organizations to create awareness around these issues through collaborative efforts within the Erasmus+ program focused on getting climate tipping points woven into the curricula of educational programs. For this we have a applied for grants to develop modules of small group educational learning focusing on teachers as well as youths.

DEVELOPING A PROGRAM AROUND STOCKHOLM50 CONFERENCE JUNE 2022

We are working together with Together Earth for a viral game to engage the young around the world to regenerate the planet focusing on climate action and the SDGs. More information about this will follow soon.
